  2. My name is Andy Hooton I am a CTE major I plan to graduate in December of this year. I live in Dewey Arizona. I am taking this class because my advisor told me to. I have no expectations in this class other than to learn some about these organizations. I have never been involved with a student group like this. I have not judged a CTSO event but once while I was teaching at a trade school I helped create the "broken" cars for the AAA automotive skills contest.

About myself, I am a Master Certified Automobile Technician and I taught at a Trade School for one year. I then changed careers and was a Police Officer for 5 years 3 of which I spent as a School Resource and DARE Officer. I am now Medically Retired from that profession and am re-careering

  4. My name is Chrystale Stewart and my major is Career and Technical Education with an emphasis in Family and Consumer Sciences.I am expected to graduate in May 2010. I actually just moved to Prescott Valley with my boyfriend and we move into a house together tomorrow and we are very excited.

I am taking this class to complete my requirements for my degree. I also participated in FCCLA and FBLA when I was in high school and I think the importance of these programs is outstanding. These programs helped me progress as a person while in high school and helped me become a more confident person. I hope to learn more behind the scenes kind of things in this class. As for judging an event, I haven't but I do hope I get the chance in the near future, because I think it would be something exciting to do.

As for hobbies I enjoy reading and watching movies, (we just bought a 61" big screen TV), so the movies should be getting a lot better! I watch the reality TV show Survivor religiously. Besides that school is my main hobby.

  6. Hello,
My name is Brandi, I am a CTE with an emphasis in business. I anticipate that I will be walking in May and my degree will post shortly after. This is my second year living in Tempe, I lived in Mesa prior. I am an Arizona native. I'm taking this class because it is needed as a requirement for my degree. Overall, I'm hoping to gain more insight on how Career& Technical Student Organizations in general so I can be more assistance to my students. Technically I have not been part of a CTSO; I have participated in a "one day" job shadow program that I believe was related to a CTSO. I have not judged an event and am looking forward to the experience.

I used to have hobbies and free time before school. A fact about me that most people find fascinating is I don't watch T.V. at all. I like movies and we did buy The Office on DVD but that is the extent of my T.V. viewing. I like to read; preferably not text books and I do enjoy a MMORPG (Massive Multi-Player Online Role Playing Game) called City of Hero's. However, my hero days get put the side when I am in school. I also have a wonderful supportive boyfriend who doesn't mind me having less time. For him it means he gets to eat out and doesn't have to endure my cooking.

  7. My name is Marilee Whipple. My major is CTE. I expect to graduate winter 2009. I live in Snowflake Arizona. I am taking this class because my advisor recommended it. I expect to know more about CTSO's. My ex-husband was heavily involved with FBLA. I attended and volunteered at many of the state leadership conferences. I helped judge some of the events from time to time. I am currently teaching at the high school here in Snowflake with a provisional teaching certificate. The other business teacher runs FBLA here but is not really passionate about the program. I expect that he will want to let me run it eventually. Some of my hobbies are cooking, nutrition, spending time with my family, church and sewing. My son attends ASU and my daughter attends UofA so with my attending NAU we have all the major Arizona universities covered.

  17. Hello, my name is Matt Dustan. I am working towards a BSEd. In CTE occupational education. I expect to finish at the end of the Winter term and if all goes well, I would like to continue in the MAEd. program. I would eventually like to become a Diesel mechanics instructor at the technical college level. I just bought a house in downtown Phoenix, but I only stay there one or two days a week. I am currently stationed at a mine near Winkelman, Arizona where I spend the weekdays. I am taking this class as part of my degree plan.
I expect that I will take away some ideas from this class about how I can involve my students in organizations that will help them develop their skills and better prepare to enter the work force. I was not involved in any CTSO’s during my high school career. FBLA was really the only organization that was very active on campus, and I was really too involved in athletics and other campus activities to be very interested. I went to school in a near suburb of Seattle, where in retrospect I realize that occupational arts are less stressed in the curriculum as other parts of the country. My school was very intent on impressing upon students the virtue of the four year college education over that of military service or skilled trades. I have never judged a CTSO competition, but I would really enjoy the opportunity to be involved in one, especially if it were geared towards mechanics or history. Does anybody know if any schools in Arizona participate in the National History Day competition? I was involved in that competition for two years in high school and really enjoyed it, although I’m not quite sure that it would be considered a CTSO.
I love being a mining and excavating equipment mechanic. I also enjoy studying history, although I found that pursuing a degree in history was not quite right for me (first attempt at college). I particularly enjoy reading about pre-colonial Central and South American history and the history of mathematics. I am a nerd.
